In Love...

I love a lot of things: my husband, my 2 kiddos, glitter, teaching, cereal, Big Bang Theory, and so many other things (do you really want me to list them all...nah!) Figurative language tops my list of units I love to teach. Something about comparing two unlike things to each other...it just gets me right there (tapping heart). I am finishing up my packet to put on TPT but for now I thought I would post my unfinished pictures of my Feb./Fig. Language bulletin board. Unfortunately I didn't get any shots of the idioms. We made comic strips full of onomatopoeias...the 3rd graders had a blast with these!

I was told by "J" that his was a true event

We made flip books, one side has a comparison using "like" and one side has a comparison using "as"

 This one says "Mrs. Wirth is as cute as Mustaches"...compliment?

 I printed a big "IS" and let the kiddos decorate it and cut it out. They added to their metaphor paper. 
We did change her "my" to an "a". On the back they wrote the meaning of their metaphor.

Busy,Busy, Busy

I feel like I am neglecting my blog but it is for good reason! We have had 7 birthday parties in 2 weeks, 2 kids with two different kinds of flu and now I am coming down with something too. Boo! But I did manage to upload a Rounding FREEBIE to my TPT store! Go grab it and enjoy...the couch and the comfy blankie are calling my name!

First Week Back

This week was the first week back and...we survived!! Well to be honest I only went 4 days out of the 5 because the lil one #2 had a double ear infection with a busted ear drum. :( Good news...it...is...not...the...flu! Whew! Here is what we did get accomplished though! Go us!

"Our Toast to..."Bulletin Board

Oh My!! Hee hee!

While we did this we ate our toast like I mentioned in the last post but have you ever watched 8 year old spread, smear, put mountains and mountains of jelly and butter on their toast? WOW! It was an entertaining moment of my life. None the less they ate it and wanted more! Why does food always taste better in a classroom?

"Toast" to the New Year

Do you have a tradition that you do when you go back the 1st day in January? Something that I have done for the past 9 years is a "Toast" to the New Year. (I love this play on words)
I bring in toppings butter, jelly, sugar, cinnamon etc. and we make/eat toast. Each student makes a classroom goal and we write it on our toast template. The discussions are always TOTALLY fabulous and it makes me wish I was 8 again. It is something so simple yet so exciting and energizing for the students (food = classroom happiness) I am looking forward to going back Monday and continuing this tradition! Happy New, may we all survive Common Core and State Testing!!  P.S. First goal- post this year's toast and bulletin board pics when finished.
